The 19th-century Ashton Villa was one of Galveston's original "Broadway mansions," a majestic, brick, Victorian abode with ornate balconies and palm tree-laden grounds. Tours pass through the Heritage Visitors Center and gift shop, stopping to peruse the eccentric paintings of the manor's first mistress, Bettie Brown. The Villa lies at the center of the island, about a mile west of Stewart Beach Park.
